Chief Minister welcomes High Commissioner of India 11 June 2009 CHIEF Minister Tony Brown MHK today (Thursday) welcomed the UK-based High Commissioner of India to the Isle of Man to join the celebrations for the worlds first zero-carbon motorcycle race. His Excellency Mr Shiv Shankar Mukherjee is paying an informal visit to the Island to meet the Indian teams taking part in the eagerly-awaited TTXGP. He is touring the TT paddock and grandstand area with the Chief Minister this afternoon to speak to representatives from Team Agni and Team Tork who are entered in Fridays race. TTXGP organiser Azhar Hussain, Tourism Minister Martyn Quayle MHK and Environment Minister John Shimmin will also be in attendance to outline the collective vision for the future of clean emissions motorsport. His Excellency and Mrs Mukherjee will then be guests at tonights TTXGP concert at the Villa Marina featuring the London Metropolitan Orchestra. Attention will turn to the race itself on Friday morning, with the official party enjoying grandstand seats for the start of the TTXGP. The Chief Minister said: I am delighted to welcome His Excellency and Mrs Mukherjee to the Island to witness the launch of an exciting new chapter in the history of the TT Races. The Isle of Man is always keen to embrace fresh ideas and innovations and TTXGP represents a tremendous opportunity for us to showcase this new technology. The High Commissioners visit reflects the worldwide interest in the development of eco motorsport and I hope others will share our enthusiasm to ensure the event continues to go from strength to strength.
