All Things Manx In Bags For Chernobyl Children 13 August 2009

Geoff Corkish MBE, MHK, and Political member for the Department of Tourism and Leisure, dropped into the Sea Cadet Hall at Tromode last week and surprised the visiting children from Belarus, Chernobyl with goodie bags.

The children were thrilled with their gifts which included Loaghtan lambs, caps, stationery and Manx flags.

They are currently enjoying their annual summer holiday in the Isle of Man and the Department have supported them over the ten years that the charity has been in existence on the Island.

Mr Corkish said:

‘I thoroughly enjoyed meeting the visiting children from Belarus again and it is wonderful that our Island is associated with them. Norman and Joan River’s commitment and dedication in making a real change in the children's lives is something that they should be very proud of.

‘I hope they have a very happy holiday and look forward to meeting them again next year.’
