Snaefell Mountain Railway 18 September 2009

With the fine weather expected this weekend, why not take the opportunity to take a trip to the Summit of Snaefell.

Laxey is the starting point for the Snaefell Mountain Railway, a unique Victorian enterprise constructed in 1895 which winds its way up above 2000 feet to the top of Snaefell, the Island’s only mountain.

At the top of Snaefell enjoy breathtaking views - it is the only place in the British Isles where you can see England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales just by turning around. Whilst at the top, enjoy refreshments in the Summit Hotel café or Laxey Station café on your return to Laxey.

The Snaefell Mountain Railway closes for the season on Sunday 27 September, so why not visit the top of the Island whilst you can.

There will be regular departures every 30 minutes from Laxey Station between 10.15 and 15.45 (last guaranteed ascent).

The journey time is approximately 30 minutes each way.

If you have the time why not make a day of it by travelling from Douglas to Ramsey on the Manx Electric Railway, stopping at Laxey for the ascent to Snaefell.
