Prisoners pack Christmas cards for charity 30 September 2009

PRISONERS are getting into the Christmas spirit early by packaging 2,000 cards for a local charity.

Crossroads Christmas cardsCrossroads Caring for Carers sought assistance from Isle of Man Prison and were delighted with the help offered to package their cards ready for sale on the Isle of Man. Nicola Libreri, Executive Assistant of Crossroads Caring for Carers, is pictured (left) collecting the 2,000 cards from the prison’s Education Manager Judy Jackson.

Nicola said:

‘Last year involved our staff and their families taking the cards home to package, so having them done so quickly and efficiently this year has meant a lot to us and will help enormously in our fundraising efforts.’

Judy Jackson commented:

‘This was the first request of its kind for the prison, and prisoners were really pleased to assist Crossroads Caring for Carers in this way.
‘We are always on the lookout for new tasks for prisoners, whether they are a one-off or on-going jobs, and if anyone has any suggestions I would ask them to contact me so they can be considered for suitability.’

Anyone who has suggestions for future tasks for prisoners is requested to contact Judy Jackson on 891049 or at Isle of Man Prison, St Patrick's Close, Coast Road, Jurby, Isle of Man IM7 3JP.

Crossroads Caring for Carers Isle of Man provides respite to carers looking after someone of any age, with any illness or disability, and has done so on Island for more than 20 years.

Their Christmas cards feature two designs by a local artist Felicity Betteridge and can be purchased in either of Crossroads’ charity shops in Prospect Terrace and Victoria Street, Douglas. They are also being stocked by Shakti Man in Ramsey. Packs of four cards containing two of each design are available for a minimum suggested donation of £2.50. Anyone wanting more information or who would like to retail the cards for Crossroads can contact Nicola Libreri on 673138.
