Temporary Relocation of the Manx Emergency Doctor Service (MEDS) 8 October 2009

In line with Noble’s Hospital’s pandemic flu plan the Manx Emergency Doctor Service (MEDS), which provides emergency out-of-hours GP cover, will be temporarily relocated from Noble’ s to the Central Community Health Centre, Westmoreland Road, Douglas (next to Kensington GP Group Practice on the old Noble’s Hospital site) with effect from 6pm on Monday 12th October 2009. This will release space at Noble’s to be used as a dedicated facility for receiving flu patients who may require admission to hospital.

The Department will do all that it can to ensure that this temporary relocation causes the minimum disruption so that MEDS continues to run efficiently with patient care remaining the priority.

Patients are reminded that MEDS is not a drop-in service and, as is currently the case, anyone needing to access MEDS should first telephone their GP surgery where their call will be automatically diverted or an answer-phone message which will give them the number of the out-of-hours service. This service is for emergencies that cannot wait until the following day.

In the event of a life-threatening situation, the emergency 999 number should always be called. This service operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
