Celebrate Darwin’s Big Ideas at the Manx Museum 20 October 2009

Manx National Heritage have organised a range of children’s activities to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the publication of Darwin's notable book, On the Origin of Species and the 200th anniversary of his birth.

Darwin’s Big Ideas will be explored in craft themed workshops running at the Manx Museum during half term week and children from 6 to 12 years old are welcome to come along. The workshops explore some of the key discoveries Charles Darwin made in his life as a geologist, natural historian and biologist.

The sessions will be packed with hands on activities such as fossil making, designing crazy creatures, and finding out why worms were important to Darwin, as well as making a Darwin themed collage!

Anthea Young, Education Services Officer said, “the half-term workshops will be an opportunity for children to be creative as they learn about animal adaptations and have fun with fossils!”

The Manx Museum also has a brand new Natural History Discovery Trail for children, which will launch during Half-term week. The trail will give children the chance to make their own Darwin- style discoveries in the Manx Museum’s Natural History Gallery. This is the newest addition to the Discovery trail series which have been such a hit with children over the summer.

Please ring the Manx Museum on 648000 to book a place for your child. The FREE workshops run from Monday 26th October to Friday 30th October. There is a morning workshop from 10.30am to 12pm and an afternoon workshop from 2.30pm to 4pm daily. Entry is FREE so booking is essential.
