From the 15th – 20th of February the Mannin Art Group is taking over the Seminar Room at the Manx Museum and will be staging a series of varied and creative art workshops. There are 2 sessions a day running from 10am – 12pm and 1pm – 3pm.

The sessions on Monday give the participants a chance to have fun with Poster Paints and see a real Portrait Painter at work. On Tuesday there will be an opportunity to draw some very special Victorian Toys from the Museum Collection. The Wednesday workshops are entitled ‘Wobbles, Wiggles & Giggles’. These sessions are all about having a look at perspective and how to draw objects with a twist! The Thursday sessions will guide you through how to have fun with pastels and it is the second opportunity to see a Portrait Painter at work. One of the most luxurious fabrics is used on Friday with the workshops teaching the participants how to paint on silk. The week rounds off with sessions on Saturday where you get a chance to meet all the artists.

Anthea Young, Education Officer at Manx National Heritage, said “These workshops are such a great opportunity to learn new skills and try new techniques from such talented members of the Manx art community. It is fabulous that the programme is so varied – there really is a workshop to suit everyone”

The Mannin Art Group is celebrating its 60th Anniversary this year. There is currently a wonderful exhibition of the members’ art at the Manx Museum. The exhibition gives you the chance to see art work from the current members of the Mannin Art Group alongside the paintings from the past members which include Hoggatt and Aitken. The exhibition continues to Saturday 1st May 2010.

Please phone the Manx Museum on 648000 to book a place on the workshops, age 6 to adult welcome. Booking is essential as spaces are limited. There will be a £3.00 charge per person for each ½ day workshop, concessions do not apply.
