Last Chance to See Me and Orson Welles on the Big Screen - matinee screenings at Broadway cinema October 2010 6 October 2010

Were you one of the 600 extras who spent an enjoyable but very long hot Sunday in the Gaiety Theatre back in 2008 during the making of Me & Orson Welles? If so, you may be interested to hear that there will be a handful of matinee screenings for the very last time at The Broadway Cinema this month.

Directed by leading independent film-maker Richard Linklater, Me and Orson Welles (Cert: 12A) stars Hollywood heartthrob Zac Efron, Claire Danes and BAFTA nominee Christian McKay and tells the story of how teenage student Richard Samuels (Zac Efron) lucks his way into a minor role in the legendary 1937 Mercury Theatre production of Julius Caesar, directed by a youthful Orson Welles (Christian McKay). Over the course of a magical week, Richard makes his Broadway debut, finds romance with an ambitious older woman, and experiences the dark side of genius after daring to cross the imperious, brilliant Welles.

The matinee performances are to enable local people, whether you were an extra or not, to have one last look at this magnificent feature film up on the big screen. “The Gaiety Theatre was extensively used as the main location in the film and it looks exquisite”, said Hilary Dugdale, Manager of Isle of Man Film. “Over six hundred local people played the part of the theatre audience, all in full make-up and period costume, so this film is very much an Isle of Man production.”

For drama students or for those with an interest in Shakespeare, Orson Welles or drama in general, the film is backed up by the UK Film Education Council and there is a wealth of support material to open up the film to a much broader audience. The film will be screening at The Broadway Cinema, Monday 11th to Friday 15th October at 2.30pm each afternoon with the exception of Wednesday 13th October when the movie will commence at 11.00am. Tickets available from the Villa Marina Box Office on tel: 600555.
