National Holocaust Memorial Service 2011 12 January 2011

THE Isle of Man’s National Holocaust Memorial Service will be held this year at The Methodist Church, Arbory Street, Castletown at 3pm on Sunday, January 23.

The annual service is co-ordinated by the Office of the Council of Ministers and was first held on the Island ten years ago, in 2001, in line with national commemorations in the United Kingdom. The service is supported by schools and churches from across the Island and will include an address by the Lord Bishop the Right Reverend Robert Paterson.

The readers will include His Excellency the Lieutenant Governor Vice Admiral Sir Paul Haddacks KCB and the Chief Minister the Honourable Tony Brown MHK, as well as school students from Ballakermeen, Castle Rushen, St Ninian’s, King William’s, QE II and Ramsey Grammar. The theme this year is ‘Untold Stories’.

The service will refer to more recent genocides in Europe and Africa as well as the Nazi Holocaust. All are welcome to attend the Holocaust Memorial Service, which is a time to remember all the innocent victims of the Nazis and other evil regimes.
