Treasury Minister welcomes further evidence of growth 25 March 2011

TREASURY Minister Anne Craine MHK has praised the business community following further evidence that the Island’s economy continued to grow in 2010.

The most recent quarterly economic report to the Council of Ministers, for the last three months of 2010, lists indications of growth during the year including:

  • record numbers in employment
  • falling unemployment
  • healthy numbers of job vacancies
  • steady increases in property values

Mrs Craine commented:

‘The continued buoyancy of the Manx economy during such a difficult period is a testament to the diversity, enterprise and sheer hard work of the Island’s business community. We must never lose sight of the fact that the private sector is the primary generator of wealth, jobs and the revenues that fund public services. Government’s role is to maintain the right environment in which business can flourish, and on the basis of this latest evidence it seems to be succeeding in that task.’
