Check your passport if you are planning to travel this summer 15 July 2011

AS schools prepare for the end of the academic year and thoughts turn to the summer holidays, Isle of Man residents are being urged to check their passports before making any travel arrangements.

July and August represent the peak months for the Passport and Immigration Office in terms of handling passport applications and renewals. Passport processing is currently taking up to six weeks, so travellers are advised to ensure their documentation is in order well in advance of any planned journeys off-Island.

Anybody who discovers their passport is out of date, or requires a passport by a guaranteed date, can take advantage of a five working days or one-day express service, subject to certain conditions being met. It is recommended that express applications are made in person.

Senior External Relations Officer Richard Carter said:

‘We would strongly advise people to check the validity of their passports and not to confirm any travel arrangements until everything is in place. This is a very busy period for the Passport and Immigration Office, so we would encourage the travelling public to plan ahead to avoid any last minute difficulties. Even if you don’t have any firm travel commitments this summer, it is still advisable to check your passport and plan accordingly if it is due for renewal in the near future.’
