SMP Partners present a significant donation to Noble's Hospital Neonatal Unit 1 June 2012

Front of Noble's HospitalThe Department of Health received a significant donation from a local Trust Company, SMP Partners, when they presented a cheque for £6,366.61 to the Neonatal Unit.

Minister for Health, David Anderson MHK said:

“It is a pleasure to hear that the private sector think so highly of our services and will raise funds to help us continue to provide the highest standard of care. This substantial donation will enable the Neonatal unit to purchase equipment in the future which would not be possible without the kindness and generosity of SMP Partners and for that I thank you.”

The cheque was presented to Paul McCann, Ward Manager, on behalf of the Neonatal Unit, in the presence of the Lt Governor, First Deemster and other local dignitaries. Paul gave an overview of the work undertaken by the Neonatal Unit. He thanked SMP Partners for the donation saying:

“On behalf of all the staff on the Neonatal Unit, and also our patients and their families, I would like to thank SMP Partners for this very generous donation. We are delighted that SMP Partners has chosen Noble's Hospital Neonatal Unit as their charity beneficiary for 2012. The donation will assist in the future purchase of a cooling system that can be used with critically ill newborn babies to help reduce the risk, as well as impact, of brain injury following traumatic delivery or certain clinical conditions during later stages of pregnancy. This is a major step towards being able to purchase one.”

Rachael Chapman, Marketing and Communications representative said:

“We are fully aware of the wonderful work the Neonatal Unit provides for infants and families here on the Island. We are delighted the proceeds of all our fundraising activities in 2012 will go to the Noble's Hospital Neonatal Unit.”

The Neonatal Unit was the chosen charity after being voted for unanimously, because one member of staff recently had a baby who required admission to the Unit. One of the company’s managing directors also has a daughter who was born prematurely at Guy’s Hospital in London 18 years ago, who was subsequently cared for by Noble's Hospital Neonatal Unit by the then Lead Nurse Paul McCann. The company raised £6,000 through a Christmas function. An opportunity to raise a further £366.61 came through a collection at a performance by the Douglas Choral Union of Miss Saigon at the Gaiety Theatre. SMP Partners is planning further activities throughout the year and will be directing proceeds to the Neonatal Unit.
