Queensland Manx Society appeals for Manx memorabilia 4 December 2012

AN appeal for Manx memorabilia has been launched in order to boost a collection going on display on the other side of the world.

The Queensland Manx Society is hoping to gather together a package of Isle of Man-related items to display in libraries throughout the Australian state. The project is aimed at promoting the organisation and helping to identify Queenslanders with Manx heritage or a personal connection with the Isle of Man.

The Queensland Manx Society already has a number of exhibits, including books and photographs, ready to be showcased in the public displays. The Society is seeking to develop its collection and is appealing for suitable donations, such as Isle of Man flags, brochures and TT memorabilia, or items about genealogy or the Manx language.

George Cowin, President of the Queensland Manx Society, said:

‘Many people from the Isle of Man have come to settle in Queensland over the years and there are strong links between the two places. We are hoping to develop a collection of Manx items and would really appreciate anything appropriate people in the Isle of Man may be able to send our way. The Manx displays will be rotated through a variety of libraries in the state as cabinet space becomes available and will help to generate interest in the Isle of Man as well as identify people who may wish to join our Society. We especially want to promote Manx heritage in the Queensland Manx Society’s centenary year of 2014. We’d like to hear from anybody planning to visit our shores during 2014. We are hoping to hold a big celebration in mid-September and any visitors would be most welcome to attend as our guests.’

Anybody willing to donate an item is asked to contact George at qms.president@gmail.com or PO Box 629, CAPALABA, Queensland, Australia. Q4157.
