Major Road and Footway Maintenance Works Commencing Early January 2013 18 December 2012

The Department of Infrastructure advises that major road and footway maintenance works will commence in Douglas and Ramsey in early January 2013.

The works in Douglas will involve the refurbishment of the footways in Finch Road and Church Road, between Prospect Hill and Market Street. The work will be carried out in phases, initially with a one-way system in place on Finch Road running towards Prospect Hill. The Department is taking the opportunity to use high quality materials for the footways between Mount Havelock and Well Road Hill, due to high pedestrian usage and the proximity of this section to the Regeneration area. It is anticipated that the works will last for approximately 5 months.

The works in Ramsey will include the reconstruction of both the carriageway and the footways on Lezayre Road between Parliament Square and Bircham Avenue. This work will take place in phases to maintain property access, but due to the narrow width of the road, it will be closed to through traffic, with diverted traffic using Bircham Avenue and Station Road. As Lezayre Road is a main route for pedestrians to and from school, a footway route will be maintained. It is anticipated that this works will last for approximately 4 months.

Other roadworks will resume after the Festive Period, and these are the reconstruction works to Derby Road, Peel and the maintenance and improvement works to Shore Road, Port Erin.

The Department will issue further information as these works progress and would like to thank the public and businesses in advance for their patience and co-operation. If you have any concerns or queries regarding these works, please phone 850000.
