History in Action Performance Meeting 28 March 2013

GuardDo you have a passion for history and a flare for the theatrical? If so Manx National Heritage is holding an informal meeting at the iMuseum in Douglas on Thursday 18th April from 6:30pm to 8:00pm for anyone interested in learning more about living history and heritage performances. The aim of the meeting is to discuss the formation of an amateur historical performance group, which could perform across the Island’s heritage sites.

Manx National Heritage has been inspired by the success of the Guernsey History-in-Action Company who stage small scale plays and living history performances at Guernsey’s heritage sites.

Katie King, Community Engagement Officer for Manx National Heritage said:

“The Guernsey History in Action Company has been going for over 15 years, and we feel the model might work very well on the Isle of Man. We have a strong amateur dramatic scene on the Island together with a thriving historic re-enactment community, so we thought why not combine the two and see whether we could form our own group of history players who could bring the Island’s heritage to life.
We are not necessarily looking for people with acting experience, but people with the confidence to improvise scenes, chat to small audiences and to develop character roles. We are looking for performers - people of all ages who have a passion for history and an interest in sharing this passion through creative performances. We are also looking for people with skills in script writing, producing or costume production. So please pop along to learn more, there will even be some refreshments on offer!”

For more details and to confirm attendance please contact Katie King on 648035 or email katie.king@gov.im.
