Junction Closure 4 November 2003

The Road Island and Spring Valley Roundabout improvement scheme has now been completed and trial traffic arrangements which include preventing traffic using the junction between Kewaigue Hill and Richmond Hill, have been in placed for a number of weeks.

The prime purpose of closing this junction was to improve safety and reduce accidents by removing the conflict of traffic entering and emerging from Kewaigue Hill at a point on the New Castletown Road which has speed and visibility problems.

The Hon J P Shimmin MHK, Minister of the Department of Transport has made a public commitment that before making a final decision relating to the junction, he would await the outcome of the trial period and take into account the views of the public.

Initial feedback and observations would indicate that the layout is working well with increased safety and no overall detriment to northbound or southbound journey times.

The Minister is currently minded to make this situation permanent and invites views of the public to be made in writing to him before Friday 14th November 2003 at the address below.
