New Buses for Island 21 November 2003

Isle of Man Transport has this week placed an order for six new double deck buses for delivery to the Isle of Man in May 2004.

Tourism and Leisure Minister David Cretney, whose department incorporates the public transport division, said:

"I am pleased to announce this further £800,000 investment in public transport for the Island which will bring to 50 the number of new easy access double deck buses introduced to the Island's bus services in the last four years."

Director of Public Transport, David Howard, added:

"Next year's delivery of these buses will allow the replacement of a similar number of single deck buses which will double the seating capacity on a number of peak hour bus journeys."

The total cost of the six buses is £822,000, which brings to £6.5million the Department's investment in new buses over the past four years.
