Pipe Performs Under Pressure 28 November 2003

The Department of Transport confirm that the IRIS transmission main from White Hoe to Oakhill Bridge has successfully passed the required pressure test.

This pipeline now needs to be connected up to the rest of the transmission main, to complete the link from the Loch Promenade Pumping Station to White Hoe Pumping Station and onto the Meary Veg Sewage Treatment Plant.

It is also opportune to make a connection at the White Hoe Pumping Station to receive the future flows from the Central Valley transmission main. A contract has recently been awarded to Island Drainage and Groundwork Ltd to lay a 600mm diameter ductile iron pipe within the E.B. Christian's Industrial Estate road roadway which will connect into the White Hoe Pumping Station. This requires a very deep excavation within the Old Castletown Road and for safety and access reasons must be carried out under a road closure.

Other works that remain outstanding include the installation of the last section of the fibre optic cable from Douglas Bridge to White Hoe and the installation of a second power supply into the White Hoe Pumping Station from a substation adjacent to the new Kewaigue Railway Bridge.

It is planned that all this work will be carried out during the closure of the Old Castletown Road to through traffic.

The road closure order will apply to the section of the Old Castletown Road between White Hoe Pumping Station and the White Hoe plant depot of E B Christians. The road closure will commence on 5th December 2003 and finish at no later than 20th December 2003. During this period, traffic will be diverted along the New Castletown Road and Quarterbridge.

The Department apologises for any disruption that will be caused by this road closure and will endeavour to limit the inconvenience and duration of the road closure.

There will be a need for a closure of the Old Castletown Road from the Ellenbrook Junction to the Oakhill Bridge in the New Year, when the final road surface is overlaid. A further press release will be issued nearer the time.
