Slight Increase in Unemployment 8 December 2003

At the end of November the jobless total stood at 334, an unemployment rate of 0.8% of the economically active population.

Of the total unemployed, 249 were males and 85 were females. These figures include 33 persons who required work permits and 17 who were signing on for National Insurance credits only.

During the month 168 claimants signed on the register and 163 signed off, giving a net increase of 5 on the figure for October.

The number of vacancies notified to the Job Centre during the month was 195. At the end of November there were 552 jobs held on file, 46 more than last year's comparable figure.
