New Chief Fire Officer 14 January 2004

During the period since the New Year the Department has been examining the options it has in regard to recruiting and appointing a new Chief Fire Officer.

Following further discussions between the Department, Minister of Home Affairs and Mr Draper, the Department is of the view that the Fire and Rescue Service will be best served by the appointment of Mr Draper who has demonstrated the professional awareness required to be able to provide the level and quality of service required of the Isle of Man Fire and Rescue Service.

The Department is pleased to announce the appointment of Mr Brian Draper as Chief Fire Officer Designate. He will receive all the Departmentís assistance to enable him to develop and grow in his new role and he has been made aware that he has the full and unequivocal support of the Minister and Department personnel.

The Minister said he was pleased that Mr Draper had accepted the post and was looking forward to working with the new Fire Chief with a view to further developing the Service to provide an efficient, cost effective and valued service that fully meets all statutory duties and public expectations.

Mr Draper will take up his post as head of the Isle of Man Fire and Rescue Service on the 1st February 2004.
