Official Opening of New Noble's Hospital 10 February 2004

The Department of Health and Social Security today announced that Noble's Hospital, Braddan will be officially opened on Saturday 8 May 2004. The Chief Minister Hon. Richard Corkill, MHK, will unveil a plaque to commemorate the event.

The ceremony will take place on the Hospital site, but all steps are being taken to ensure that access for patients and visitors is maintained.

Attendance at the ceremony will be strictly by invitation only, however, plans are being made to relay the ceremony within the Hospital building and to patients in the wards.

Hon Clare Christian BSc MLC, Minister for Health and Social Security said:

"The successful commissioning of Noble's Hospital, Braddan represents a significant achievement for our Island. It is, therefore, very fitting that our own Chief Minister be invited to perform the opening. We have planned the ceremony for the Spring in the expectation of good weather for this significant event. The official opening ceremony will be the culmination of what has been an extraordinary team effort over many years whereby extensive consultation took place with the public, local user groups and charities and an unbelievable amount of work went on behind the scenes."

Noble's Hospital, Braddan is the Island's largest ever-building project and was planned to meet the needs of a population assumed to be about 85,000 in the year 2021. The Hospital took its first patients on Saturday, 12 July 2003, and became fully operational on Monday, 14 July 2003. The Hospital was named 'Noble's Hospital" following a public competition in which the majority of responses favoured retaining the 'Noble's' name.
