Trial des Nations 23 February 2004

At its Spring Meeting held in Geneva on 21/22 February the Trials Commission of the FIM has allocated the 2007 Trial des Nations to the Isle of Man.

Minister for Tourism and Leisure the Hon. David Cretney MHK explained:

"We were very keen to stage the event again and for their part the FIM were keen to link the event to the Centenary of the TT Races. The Trial des Nations, which will be staged in September, will provide a fitting climax to the summer of motorcycling celebrations."

The event will once again be organised by the Peveril Motorcycle Club with support from the Department of Tourism and Leisure. This is a cause for double celebration for the Minister because he is also President of the Club.

Final word on the decision came from the Department's Director of Leisure, Mike Ball, who was also at the FIM meetings:

"I was speaking to the Trials Commission President Ignacio Verneda during the Meeting and he described the 1997 Trial Des Nations which we hosted as 'the best ever' and he is clearly looking forward to returning in 2007. The challenge for the Club and the Department is to produce an even more spectacular success in 2007."
