Many Festivities for Tynwald Day 26 April 2004 The Tynwald Setting Enhancement Committee has promised there will be something
for everyone on 5th July, Tynwald Day, again this year.
President of Tynwald Noel Cringle said:
"Following the success of recent years, there will be a fun packed programme
of entertainment, music, exhibitions and dancing throughout the day for all to
enjoy. As in previous years large crowds are anticipated so anyone planning to
attend the parliamentary ceremony is advised to arrive at St John's early and
some people may even like to organise coach parties to lessen the traffic on
roads and save space in parking areas.
"The Committee is keen to increase the celebrations, not only on Tynwald Day at
St John's, but across the whole of the Isle of Man during Manx National Week,
5th to 11th July. Anne Craine MHK, organised a fantastic show of events in
Ramsey last year, and it would be great if communities
all over the Island could join in with their enthusiasm."
Anne Craine MHK, said:
"Our programme of events in Ramsey brought the
whole community together and went exceptionally well last year. We had lots of
fun and entertainment for young and old alike, with town walks, a best dressed
window competition with a heritage theme, a street parade by Ramsey Grammar School, the Purple Helmets
show and Ramsey Town Band. The grand finale was a
huge street party, with live bands, street performers and entertainment on West
Quay and Market Square. It was a great week and we hope to expand on it again
this year."
Anyone wishing to perform at St John's on Tynwald Day, who has not been
contacted already, is welcome to write to Laurence Skelly, Tynwald Day
Enhancements Co-ordinator, c/o Department of Tourism and Leisure, Sea Terminal,
Douglas, IM1 2RG or e-mail him skelly@manx.net.
Full details of all the activities, including a new competition, will be
distributed prior to 5th July. More stories >>>
