Inflation at 5.5% 24 June 2004

The rate of inflation for All Items remained at 5.5% in June. The rate for All Items Excluding Housing now stands at 5.4%.

Over the month to mid-June the largest increases were shown to be in the Housing and Household goods categories which both increased by 0.7%. Over the same period the largest fall was in Alcoholic drinks showing a decrease of 0.4%.

During the twelve months to June all categories have risen with the largest of these increases being in the Motoring expenditure index (11.5%).

The General Index of Retail Prices for June now stands at 114.7 (January 2000 = 100.0).
