Equipment for School in Peru 6 July 2004

Children on the other side of the globe are benefiting from money raised by the staff of Douglas Corporation.

Notebooks, pens, crayons, library books and soccer balls have been delivered to a school in the Amazon basin in Peru after staff raised 326 by donating money instead of buying Christmas cards. Darran Kenna from the Treasurer's department nominated the Adopt-A-School programme run by the United States.

Darran said:

"I visited Peru and found a school there was trying to raise money to buy one football. They had raised enough for half a football. I thought we could make a difference. We achieved a fantastic total and because of the favourable rates this converted to 507 US dollars. The programme asks for 350 dollars to finance a whole school group so we far exceeded that."
