Unemployment Falls 12 July 2004

At the end of June unemployment fell by 49 bringing the jobless total down 315, an unemployment rate of 0.9% of the economically active population.

During the month 129 claimants signed on the register and 178 signed off. Of the total unemployed, 226 are males and 89 are females. These figures include 31 persons who require work permits and 29 who were signing on for National Insurance credits only.

There was a sizeable increase, some seasonal, in the number of vacancies notified to the Job Centre during June and at the end of the month 788 jobs were held on file, the highest figure since August 2001.
