Shellfish Thefts 12 August 2004

There have been a number of recent thefts of shellfish, from producers in the South of the Island. Product includes Crabs and Lobsters taken from boats and stockpots at Port Erin and Port St Mary Harbours.

These thefts were carried out it is believed, late at night or early morning over the last few weeks.

Tenders parked in the local boat parks were also used during the thefts and abandoned in the area, causing damage and distress to the owners of these craft.

Caterers and retailers are advised to be on their guard, if approached to purchase this type of seafood from persons other than their normal suppliers.

Captain C S Burton, Port Manager South, would be grateful if any person with any information relating to these thefts would contact him at the Harbour Office, Alfred Pier, Port St Mary on telephone number 833205 or Port Erin Police Station on telephone number 832222.
