Inflation Falls 9 May 2005

The annual rate of inflation, as anticipated, continued to fall in April and now stands at 4.3%.

During the month the largest increase (of 3.7%) was recorded in the Fuel and Light category.

The Tobacco and the Personal Goods and Services indices show the only other significant increases over the month, of 1.6% and 1.2% respectively.

The Fuel and Light category shows the largest increase (of 25.9%) over the year to mid-April. The Personal Goods and Services index rose by 7.1% over the same period.

The General Index of Retail Prices for all items now stands at 118.9 (January 2000 = 100.0).
