Wildlife Park 40th Anniversary 20 June 2005

The 40th anniversary of the opening of the Curraghs Wildlife Park is approaching and staff are planning a battery of events to help celebrate the occasion.

Following the success of Manx Wildlife Week, 12 – 19 June, the Curraghs Wildlife Park now has a series of events every weekend, the first this coming weekend with a beetle drive on Sunday, 26th June at 2pm, to appeal to a family audience.

The Wildlife Park first opened on July 3rd 1965 and a big birthday party is planned for the weekend of the 2nd and 3rd July. There will be street theatre, a Noah’s Ark parade, Punch and Judy, the Orchid Line miniature railway, beastly bingo, Cookie the Clown, birthday cake and, on Sunday 3rd July, an official opening and unveiling by the Chief Minister. Admission prices on both days will be at 1965 prices.

General Manager, Mr Nick Pinder, commented:

"Manx Wildlife Week was great, with lots of people taking part, joining in the walks and even joining some of the participating wildlife groups. But as well as promoting the wildlife of the Island, we want our fortieth anniversary year to be fun for everyone and so we’ve planned this series of events through the summer. Families and individuals can see what’s on and come to the ones that appeal to them, but the birthday weekend will be the big one, at which we’ll have birthday cake to give away and we’re letting everyone in at forty year old prices, although to keep the maths simple we’re making it 10p for adults and 5p only for children."
