Series Leaders in Roush Manx Rally 20 April 2004

The entry list for the Roush Manx Rally (7/8th May) is already bursting at the seams and, with the event welcoming contenders from several major Championships, the number includes the leaders of each of the various series.

Following the Astra Stages in North Wales at the beginning of April, Roger Duckworth (Whittlebury) moved into the lead of the Kumho National Rally Championship in his Subaru Impreza WRC. Outright victory on the opening round of the series, Rallye Sunseeker, set him on his way and the former National Champion arrives in Douglas intent on consolidating his advantage. Absent from the event last year, Duckworth finished 3rd in 2002 and has the proven ability to add the Roush Manx to his list of conquests.

Meanwhile, defending GPR National Tarmacadam Rally Champion Steve Hendy (Ferndown) also knows the Manx roads very well. Fourth last year in his familiar Escort Cosworth, the south of England Ford Main Dealer will need all his experience to maintain his lead of the 2004 series as, after two rounds, just three points separate the top three drivers! Winner of the recent Tour of Cornwall, Steve Fleck (Newbury) also leads the Rallysport Challenge in his Subaru Impreza WRC.

The Mitsubishi Evolution Challenge boasts joint leaders as up to 30 Lancers cross the Irish Sea to take the start of this year's Roush Manx Rally. Rory Galligan (Oldcastle) won the opening encounter, ahead of Paul Wedgbury (Bridgnorth), while the roles were reversed on the second round. The pace on the closed public roads on the Isle of Man will focus the attention of all the 'Challengers' who are battling for the first prize of a 'works' drive in a Group N Mitsubishi Lancer for the 2005 season.

Ieuan Rowlands (Ffestiniog) leads the Peugeot Total 206 Super Cup at the one-quarter stage of the season. The Manx is the third round of the Championship and Rowlands already has Stuart Jones (Welshpool) and Gareth Machale (Rathcoole) breathing down his neck.
