Mann Returns to Manx 28 April 2004

A capacity entry of 140 cars will assemble in Port Erin on the evening of Friday 7th May for the start of the first leg of the Roush Manx Rally and leading the field away will be the Subaru Impreza WRC of last year's winners, David Mann & Alun Cook. They will be followed by the similar cars of 2002 winner Melvyn Evans and 1999/2000 victor Kenny McKinstry.

Sponsored by Roush Technologies for the third consecutive year, the Manx Rally is a qualifying round of four major UK Championships and the entry list, which is attached in full to this bulletin, is the envy of many an event organiser!

As leader of the Kumho Tyres National Rally Championship after the first two rounds, the main aim of Roger Duckworth (Subaru Impreza WRC) is to use the event to consolidate his advantage still further. Missing from the line-up last year, he was 3rd in 2002 and the Northamptonshire engineer has the proven ability to improve on that this time.

Meanwhile defending GPR National Tarmacadam Rally Champion Steve Hendy (Ford Escort Cosworth) arrives on the Isle of Man with a slender lead in this year's series. 5th in 2002 and 4th last year should give the South of England Ford Main Dealer the confidence to progress as he seeks his third consecutive Tarmacadam title. However former Manx Rally winner John Price (1998 - MG Metro 6R4) is shadowing him every step of the way as he has set his sights on what would be his tenth individual Championship title.

The first prize of a season in a works-prepared Mitsubishi Lancer for 2005 has inspired record numbers of drivers to register for the Mitsubishi Evolution Challenge this year. At the one-quarter stage, Rory Galligan leads the race to succeed fellow Ulsterman Brendan Crealey for the coveted drive. However, he will not need reminding that there is still a long way to go!?.

The Peugeot TOTAL 206 Super Cup has allied itself to the Kumho Championship calendar this year and, thus, the Manx entry contains 16 rally-prepared 206XS models. Ieuan Rowlands faces a tough challenge to maintain his lead as several other drivers are breathing down his neck and, with 30 points on offer for a win on each round, one slip could significantly alter the look of the leaderboard!

Before anyone is eligible to claim any points on the Roush Manx Rally, they must have successfully completed 120 miles of special stages at a pace which, especially if the weather stays dry, will be frenetic! The rally first took place in 1980 and the list of past winners makes very impressive reading - anyone adding their name to it can be justly proud of their achievement on what is always a supreme test of man and machine!

The Roush Manx Rally format is as follows:
