TT Motor Cycle Races - Roads Closed to the Public 23 May 2006

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN by the Department of Transport that it has made an Order under the Road Races Act 1982, providing that:

1. The main roads known as the TT MOUNTAIN COURSE (hereinafter called “the Course”) SHALL BE CLOSED TO THE PUBLIC for the 2006 TT Motor Cycle Practices, Lap of Honour Parades and Races as follows :-

PRACTICES

SATURDAY 27th MAY

NO MORNING PRACTICE

EVENING from 6.00 pm. to 9.30 p.m.

MONDAY 29th MAY NO MORNING PRACTICE

EVENING from 6.00 p.m. to 9.30 p.m.

TUESDAY 30th MAY NO MORNING PRACTICE

EVENING from 6.00 p.m. to 9.30 p.m.

WEDNESDAY 31st MAY NO MORNING PRACTICE

EVENING from 6.00 p.m. to 9.30 p.m.

THURSDAY 1st JUNE NO MORNING PRACTICE

AFTERNOON from 1.45 p.m. to 5.00 p.m.

FRIDAY 2nd JUNE NO MORNING PRACTICE

EVENING from 6.00 p.m. to 9.30 p.m.

SATURDAY 3rd JUNE AFTERNOON after RACING completed to 6.00 p.m.***

MONDAY 5th JUNE AFTERNOON after RACING completed to 5.00 p.m.***

WEDNESDAY 7th JUNE AFTERNOON after RACING completed to 5.00 p.m.***

RACES

SATURDAY 3rd JUNE DAY from 12.15 p.m. to 9.30 p.m.

MONDAY 5th JUNE DAY from 10.00 a.m. to 5.00 p.m. ***

WEDNESDAY 7th JUNE DAY from 10.00 a.m. to 5.00 p.m.***

FRIDAY 9th JUNE DAY from 10.00 a.m. to 5.00 p.m.***

2. In the event of repeated bad visibility or adverse weather conditions etc. additional PRACTICE Sessions may be arranged for :

THURSDAY 1st JUNE EVENING from 6.00 p.m. to 9.30 p.m. only in case of postponement of the afternoon practice

SATURDAY 3rd JUNE AFTERNOON from 12.15 p.m. to 9.30 p.m.

SUNDAY 4th JUNE AFTERNOON after racing completed to 6.00 p.m.***

TUESDAY 6th JUNE AFTERNOON after racing completed to 5.00 p.m.***

THURSDAY 8th JUNE AFTERNOON after racing completed to 5.00 p.m.***

The Public will be notified if the Practices on 3rd, 4th, 6th and 8th June are definitely going ahead on local radio stations on the evenings of 2nd, 3rd, 5th and 7th June respectively. The Races may be postponed and held on days following.

3. Any race which shall not have started or which has been declared Null and Void by the promoters on a specified Race Day may be postponed to any of the days from 4th June to 10th June, on similar terms EXCEPT THAT in the event of a Race being postponed to

(a) SUNDAY 4th JUNE the Course shall be closed on that day from 1.30 p.m. until not later than 6.00 p.m.

(b) MONDAY 5th JUNE, WEDNESDAY 7th JUNE, FRIDAY 9th JUNE or SATURDAY 10th JUNE the Course shall be closed on those days from 10.00 a.m. until not later than 5.00 p.m.***

(c) TUESDAY 6th JUNE or THURSDAY 8th JUNE the Course shall be closed on those days from 11.30 a.m. until not later than 5.00 p.m.***

4. In the event of adverse weather conditions etc the start of any race including any Parade on specified Race Days may be postponed from time to time until not later than 7.00 p.m. (***ROADS OPEN not later than 9.30 p.m.).

5. Notification of postponed closures will be given in the news bulletins on local radio stations.

6. During the Practice and Race Periods no person may pass any barriers on to the Course unless specially authorised, but the Order provides for limited crossing of the Course by traffic, at the discretion of the Police on duty, during the intervals between Races.

7. The Course will be re-opened for traffic by an official motor vehicle displaying a notice “Roads Open” proceeding along the Course upon the completion of the Practices and Races, and by the passing of such vehicle the part of the Course so passed is open for traffic. EXCEPT THAT after the Practice sessions from 1st June 2006 onwards and after all Race periods the Snaefell Mountain Road between Ramsey Hairpin and Cronk-ny-Mona will initially be one way southbound towards Douglas only, and that the official motor vehicle will display a notice “Roads Open One Way”. The Snaefell Mountain Road will revert to two way traffic after the passage of a Police vehicle displaying the signs “Roads Open Two Way” leaving Ramsey Hairpin up to 45 minutes later.

8. On Sunday 4th June 2006 from 10.00 a.m. and on Tuesday 6th June from 2.30 p.m. the Snaefell Mountain Road will also be one way from Ramsey Hairpin and Cronk-ny-Mona and will revert to two way traffic after the passage of a Police vehicle displaying the signs “Roads Open Two Way” leaving Ramsey Hairpin at 7.45 p.m. on the Sunday and 4.45 p.m. on the Tuesday.

9. A copy of the Order may be inspected at any Police Station or at the undermentioned address. In the event of any query a helpline is available on 644644, 644629 (from and including 26th May) and 644647. Further information will be broadcast on local radio stations.

10. Offences against the Act or the Order render the offender liable to a penalty not exceeding £2,500. 11. This notice gives general guidance only and should not be treated as an authoritative statement of the law.
