Changes to mail operations during TT fortnight 27 May 2008

Ahead of this year’s TT fortnight, Isle of Man Post Office wishes to announce some operational changes to the delivery and collection of mail.

As a result of a substantial increase in the volume and speed of traffic on the Island’s roads during the TT Races, customers can expect traffic volumes to cause some disruption and possible delay to normal delivery and collection times. However Isle of Man Post Office will do all possible to minimise the disruption the races will cause its customers.

On days involving road closures, this will seriously affect deliveries to addresses on the course or where access is only available via the course. We will deliver where we are able to, but those addresses not receiving a delivery will have their mail delivered to them the next available day. Normal delivery times may vary. Collections may be affected especially in rural areas. Final collection times in the town areas may also vary.

On non-race days there will be a complete delivery of mail but please note there may be some delays as deliveries will include mail from the previous race day for premises affected by the closure of the TT course.

During the TT period, customers who wish to collect their mail from their local sorting office for their own convenience may do so by prior arrangement. We also offer to customers and businesses located on or adjacent to the course, the option of having their mail delivered to another address. Anyone wishing to do this should telephone their local sorting office to make alternative arrangements: Ramsey 816735, Douglas 664664, Peel 844590 or Southern 823332.

To lighten their load, bikers can send their luggage home with Isle of Man Post Office during TT week and this can be arranged by calling Parcels on 698471.

Meanwhile all postal staff will be wearing high visibility jackets during their deliveries in TT fortnight so motorists can clearly see them on the road. Isle of Man Post Office would like to remind all road users that postal staff will be working throughout the Island in the increased levels of traffic and would appreciate if other motorists could take extra care.

All post offices will be open as usual during TT fortnight and Senior Race Day (Friday 6th June) with the exception of those offices located on the TT course which will be closed on race days. The Department of Health and Social Security has agreed this year to the early encashment of pensions and allowances for the convenience of customers in TT week.

Although there is no new TT stamp issue for 2008, it will be the last chance for locals and visitors alike to buy fantastic products from the TT centenary merchandise range including the TT winners’ sheet from 2007 and much more. There will also be a large selection of Isle of Man souvenirs on sale. The Post Shop will be open from 9am everyday.
