2009 TT Homestay Scheme Has Now Closed 6 May 2009

The Department of Tourism and Leisure has now closed the HOMESTAY Registration for this year’s TT festival. Any householders considering offering Homestay accommodation for 2009 will not be permitted to register now until the scheme re-opens for TT 2010.

The scheme allows visitors to be accommodated in Manx homes due to the overflow of tourists staying in hotel or other registered accommodation and has been operating highly successfully for over 18 years.

Hon Martyn Quayle MHK, Minister for Tourism and Leisure commented:

‘I’d like to thank everybody who has opened their home during TT in the past, and for this year, and ask them to contact us again next year in 2010 to ensure our TT visitors are satisfactorily accommodated.

Homestay is a really useful scheme to ensure that all our TT visitors can be accommodated. It is also welcomed by many Manx residents who like the idea of earning some extra money whilst helping the Tourism Industry.’

The Department of Tourism and Leisure wishes to stress however that people accepting paying guests in their homes during the TT period have to be inspected by their officers before being accepted onto the scheme. It should be noted that registration is compulsory and it is an offence not to register homes under the Tourist Act 1975. The Department considers this practice as being good customer care.
