Operation Deflect 3 – Intelligence led initiative 15 June 2009

THE Isle of Man Constabulary has released information about Operation Deflect 3, which took place over the TT Festival fortnight, and resulted in 20 drug related arrests and one arrest for driving whilst disqualified.

Items seized included £5,000 of cocaine, £1,000 of cannabis, and £7,600 in cash.

This initiative consisted of 12 separate Police operations Island-wide including drug warrants, port checks and targeted patrols. They were coordinated by the Pro-Active Team and led by neighbourhood officers with support from specialist departments.

Detective Constable Gavin Callow of the Pro-Active Team stated:

'This operation reflects the Constabulary's commitment to ensure normal policing continued within the Neighbourhoods throughout the TT period. What has been noticed is that the Neighbourhoods have been able to identify issues within their areas and react to them very quickly, stopping them before they become problems - which is the essence of Pro-Active Policing.
'This may be seen as a new approach but it underpins the Isle of Man Constabulary's approach to policing, that is to act quickly on intelligence and information from the community to keep people safe. The Police need information supplied to us by local residents and if anybody has concerns about criminal behaviour I would urge them to contact their neighbourhood police officer or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.'
