TT 2011 harbour figures 8 July 2011

The Department is very pleased at the outcome of this year’s TT Festival with respect to the number of passengers and vehicles carried. The final statistics from the Isle of Man Steam Packet Company showed that bikes and passengers were up against 2010 by 5.5% and 6.7% respectively.

This increased traffic may not have been readily apparent as it was more spread out than usual over both Practice and TT weeks. This occurred due to the company only using Manannan and Ben-My-Chree plus P&Os “Express” to do two Larne/Douglas round trips at each end of TT week.

Both of the Company’s vessels operated an intense schedule successfully with only limited delays mainly due to heavy traffic.

The previously damaged passenger gangway at Heysham was brought into operation on 24th May and works successfully.

Ben-my-Chree damaged one of its two bow thrusters just before the TT period but operated safely until 18th June when it dry docked in Birkenhead for 48 hours to repair damaged bow thruster.
