Pupils first to use new footbridge 1 May 2012

Pupils at Cronk-y-Berry Primary School today became the first to cross the new footbridge over the TT course, linking Governor’s Hill with the new school at Bemahague, Onchan.Bemahague bridge

The 41 Year 6 pupils will be among the first intake at the new St Ninian's Lower School when it opens in September.

The bridge, which weighs 50 tonnes, has a clear span of 22 metres and was hoisted into position by a 60-tonne crane, provides safe access over the A18 TT course at Hailwood Avenue corner.

It is now open for public use.

The £33.8 million St Ninian’s Lower School will accommodate 700 pupils in Years 7 to 9 (Key Stage 3) of the existing school.
