TT Practice News [b] (Evening Tuesday 27 May 2003) 27 May 2003

Tonight's practice really set the TT alight with Morecambe's John McGuinness rocketing round at 124.47mph on the MonsterMob 1000cc twin-cylinder Ducati.

His time of 18 minutes 10.40 seconds compares favourably with the Formula One outright lap record held by David Jefferies (1000 Suzuki) from last year. His speed was 126.68mph, faster by 18 seconds but under full race conditions rather than during heavy traffic practice.

David Jefferies took over the 1000 Production class from Adrian Archibald, with a speed of 121.57mph, 25 seconds off his own official lap record set in 2002.

In the Junior 600, Ian Lougher displaced Archibald as practice leader, lapping the Manton Honda at 119.02, better by eight seconds than the Irishman's Monday morning endeavour.

And in the Ultra Lightweight 125, Michael Wilcox continues to be the leader, upping his speed from 106.94 to 108.71, quicker by 21 seconds and only 17 seconds outside Lougher's official record set last year.

The 600 Production was headed by Archibald at 115.89mph, but that was not sufficient to dislodge his earlier best of 118.06 yesterday evening.

And the Lightweight 400 headed by Ryan Farquhar at 108.25mph was nine seconds adrift of John Barton's 109.07 the night before.

The sidecars were again affected by the deterioration in the weather and were once more only able to get one lap in. Dave Molyneux and Criag Hallam were best at 108.43mph, remarkably good under the circumstances, but obviously well shy of the pair's 111.60mph on Monday.

Incidents reported were: Karsten Schmidt crashed at Parliament Square, Ramsey, and Robin Leigh-Pemberton slipped off at Ramsey Hairpin. Both were uninjured.

Tomorrow morning's practice session has been cancelled because of the forecast of bad weather. The next session will therefore be Wednesday evening.
