TT2005 Classic Nostalgia Weekend 28 February 2005

Preparations are going well to stage a special weekend of classic motorcycle action from June 10-12, 2005.

On June 10, the lap of honour and classic parade will take to the Mountain Course after the Senior TT. It will have an Italian theme this year because of a number of special historic anniversaries coinciding with the event. Also, Velocette are celebrating 100 years of manufacturing motorcycles with a selection of machines participating in the weekend’s celebrations.

Tourism Minister David Cretney said:

"Amongst former TT riders already signed up, we are looking forward to welcoming back Sammy Miller, Tommy Robb, Jim Redman, Tony Rutter, Mick Grant, Hugh Anderson with the famous New Zealand Britten machine, Charlie Williams, John Kidson, Roger Sutcliffe, Mal Wheeler and many others."

Entries close in April.

In the evening, as well as the Senior TT prize presentations at the Villa Marina, the ‘Classic Weekenders’ will receive their awards in the Royal Hall after a supper.

More action follows on Saturday, June 11, as part of the Southern 100 National Road Races sponsored by the Steam Packet Company, when the paraders head south to enjoy laps of the Billown circuit.

In the evening a new event will be staged at the Villa with plans for a TT Classic Stars TT Forum. Tickets will be available soon. Fans will be able to mix with their TT heroes, ask questions, get autographs and listen to them recount tales of their TT experiences.

Around lunchtime on Sunday, June 12, the Concours d’Elegance and judging of special machines will take place in the Villa gardens in a relaxed informal atmosphere which will bring the weekend’s activities to a conclusion.

It is anticipated that many motorcyclists interested in classic machines will also visit the Golden Jubilee TT vintage rally for classic bikes which commences Friday June 3 and ends Thursday June 9. More information on this event can be obtained from Tony East at the Old Vicarage, Kirk Michael, telephone 878242.
