Milky is the Riders Representative 8 May 2006

Former TT winner Richard 'Milky' Quayle has been appointed by the Department of Tourism and Leisure to act as Riders Representative for the 2006 Isle of Man TT Races.

Richard retired from racing in 2003 bringing to an end a career which saw him win the TT in only his second year in 2002 as well as three Manx Grand Prix races and one Ulster Grand Prix. He was appointed to act as Rider Liaison Officer for the 2005 TT Races, and due to ongoing restructuring of the TT organisation, his role will change in terms of title and responsibilities.

Richard will primarily represent the competitors and teams in all consultation with the organising club (MMCC) and promoters (DoTL) dealing with racing issues for competitors and teams. He will assist the Clerk of the Course with technical and practical knowledge from the position as a former competitor and will provide feedback to the organising club and promoters regarding racing related issues.

He will continue to work alongside TT Development Manager on rider recruitment and will be in charge of rider development and training of any new riders. He will also represent the competitors on the Course Safety Committee and Entry Committee as well as working with the TT Development Manager to promote the TT both on Island and at other race events and shows.

Speaking about the appointment Richard said:

"I am delighted to remain involved in an event which has played such a major part in my life. It has been great to have been able to put something back into the sport I love and last year was very challenging but rewarding at the same time. We have made terrific progress ahead of this years event, and it is shaping up to be one of the best ever and I am really looking forward to it now."

Minister for Tourism and Leisure David Cretney added:

"Milky is a Manx sporting legend and we are very lucky to have someone of his stature and experience directly involved in our event. He is one of the most passionate TT fans I have ever met and he has great vision for the future of our event. I am sure he will continue to be a valuable asset to the Isle of Man TT Races for many years to come."

Any competitor wishing to contact Richard outside of TT fortnight can do so by e-mail at tt_riders_rep@manx.net
