New Sulby water treatment works - connection into supply 2 September 2005

In order to connect the new Water Treatment Works into supply the supply from the existing Works has to be turned off. This is currently planned to take place on Tuesday 6th September 2005. In order to do this the whole system in the west of the Island has to be fed for several hours from the Douglas Works which will cause a short term reversal in flow which is likely to result in discoloured water.

Unfortunately it is not possible to predict exactly how long the discoloured water situation might persist – it might be just a day or it may be a few days depending on location. Water supplies to homes in the Sulby supply zone including Andreas, Ballaugh, Bride, Jurby, Kirk Michael, Peel, Ramsey, Maughold, Laxey and Sulby are the most likely to be affected.

The area to be fed from the new Water Treatment Works will be extended in the days following Tuesday 6th September for a period of approximately three weeks though it is not expected that the discoloured water will persist for that length of time.

The Authority would ask for the forbearance and patience of its customers during this essential work. As always the Authority will endeavour to keep disruption and inconvenience to a minimum. If customers do experience discoloured water they are asked to run their cold taps unless we advise otherwise. Customers are advised to take measures to mitigate any period of discolouration such as putting aside any water for drinking and by doing any clothes washing on the days prior to the 6th and 7th September.

Should customers have any serious concerns regarding their water supplies while these tests are being carried out then they should contact our Customer Helpline on 695999 for assistance.
