New Members for the DTI 19 August 2005

    The recent reshuffle within the Isle of Man Government has led to the appointment of two new members to the Department of Trade & Industry.

    Martyn Quayle MHK is returning to the Department and has been given delegated responsibility for Employment and Retail. Mr Quayle will be actively engaged in promoting the Investors in People standard amongst the business community and in raising the profile of the retail sector in general.

    Dudley Butt MLC is new to the DTI and will assume responsibility for Training. With the Vocational Training Strategy about to complete its consultation period, the emphasis on developing workforce skills is greater than ever and has been identified as one of the most important factors in securing economic prosperity for the Island in future years.

    Leonard Singer MLC remains as a member, retaining responsibility for the rapidly evolving E- Business Sector and the high profile Film Industry.

    The Minister for Trade & Industry, Alex Downie MLC, said “The new political team at the DTI is well equipped to meet the challenge of the diverse range of sectors which we represent and will offer continuity to build on the good work of their predecessors in the pursuit of economic growth”.
