DHSS Benefit Payments Delayed 18 January 2006

The Department regrets that it is currently experiencing problems with its Benefit Payments computer system, which have yet to be resolved.

Staff are currently working with technicians to try to rectify the problems, as a matter of urgency. However, it has not been possible to fix the problem in time to print benefit cheques which were due to be delivered to customers today (Wednesday).

The Department has, however, agreed contingency arrangements with the Post Office. Customers who should have received their benefit cheque today are asked to go to the post office at which they would normally cash their benefit cheque after 12 noon today where, upon production of their usual proof of identity, they will be able to get the payment due to them.

The Department wishes to apologise for any concern this problem may cause its customers and to assure them that it is doing everything possible to rectify the position as soon as possible.

A further announcement will be made at 3 p.m. today to confirm the position at that time.
