IIP again for Laxey Primary School 23 January 2006

WELL DONE to all the staff at Laxey School in retaining recognition as an Investor in People. The school received a detailed follow up report from the Assessor, which was full of supportive comments. Some of the evidence, which the assessor saw as particularly good practice, is listed below:

    • The school shows a strong purpose and vision that stresses the need to develop all pupils, and to encourage a strong community role. This is demonstrated in the school’s aims and objectives, and in the actions taken to achieve them.
    • A comprehensive planning process is in place that involves people at all levels. The School Improvement Plan reflects the vision of the school, and contains a range of curriculum development.
    • A wide range of learning and development activities are offered to people throughout the school to meet their needs, and to support the achievement of objectives in the School Improvement Plan.
    • There is a strong team culture throughout the school, with many examples of people working together to achieve objectives. A particular example can be seen in the development of the Nurture Group, where a strong partnership between teaching and NNEB staff has resulted in joint learning and development activities and effective team working in the operation of the nurture group, and in the promotion of a nurture culture within the school.
“ Having Investors in People status is wonderful and is a very positive recognition for the school. Judith Lund (Headteacher) said, “By far, the best reward is to see the effects of our work reflected in the success of our pupils. It is also an acknowledgement of the work of all our staff. We are all managers within the school, whatever our role. The award reflects the contribution to the school’s practices, organisation and development from everyone who works at Laxey School. Raising the achievement of pupils is dependent on the contribution, commitment and continued learning of the staff and others who work with Laxey School. Teaching and support staff are, therefore, our greatest asset. Well done to them all”.
