End to End Challenge achieves worldwide coverage on Sky TV 20 September 2006

This year’s End to End mountain bike challenge, supported by Isle of Man Department of Tourism and Leisure, was a huge success and attracted no less than 400 competitors. Highlights of the fast and furious event, held on Sunday 10 September, are scheduled to be broadcast on Sky Sports TV.

Broadcast dates are as follows:-

  • 26th September 1600 Sky Sports 2
  • 27th September 0200 Sky Sports 2
  • 27th September 0630 Sky Sports 3
  • 27th September 1300 Sky Sports 2

Since its inception in 1996 the event has grown every year and this year it attracted 168 visitors from overseas. The 47 mile course runs from the Point of Ayre at the northern tip of the Island to The Sound at the southern tip, following a waymarked course across some of the best countryside that the Isle of Man has to offer.

This year’s winner was Mark Thwaites from Ilkley in Yorkshire, closely followed by runner-up 17 year old Johnny McEvoy, who is one of the leading cyclo-cross riders in the UK. Isle of Man’s Paul Kneen took third place.

Gavin Callow, a committee member of the Manx Mountain Bike Club, said:

‘It is brilliant that the event was so well attended this year and even more pleasing to see so many riders from off the Island attended. This event is now firmly on the mountain bike map as a classic ‘must do’ event. We hope that all the visiting riders will spread the word about how fantastic the Isle of Man is for mountain biking and how much they enjoyed the End to End.’
