Billown events to start and end Centenary TT Festival 1 December 2006

The 4.2 mile Billown Circuit in the South of the Isle of Man will play host to events which will start and end the 2007 Centenary TT Festival.

TT 2007 will burst into life when the cream of classic road racing mix it with the stars of the Manx Grand Prix and TT races in the ever spectacular Pre TT Classic Races on the 25th, 26th and 28th of May. Based around the picturesque harbour town of Castletown, the fast and furious Billown circuit conjures up the most thrilling wheel to wheel action and is the ideal setting to experience the sights, sounds and smells of motor cycling’s golden era.

The enthusiasm and atmosphere is also special around the Billown circuit during the Blackford Financial Services Pre TT Classic as spectators and enthusiasts mingle with the ever-growing number of competitors.

The three day event features machines of all ages and type and is topped by the unique open air presentation and Concourse d'Elegance under the gaze of historic Castle Rushen.

A fitting finale is provided with the racing machines being 'fired up' for everyone's enjoyment. What better way to open the centenary celebrations at the Isle of Man TT festival?

Following two weeks of racing and nostalgia around the TT Mountain Circuit, the action returns to Billown to bring the curtain down on the Centenary event, with the increasingly popular Steam Packet National Races. Many of the TT’s biggest stars will turn out for this meeting which regularly provides some of the closest racing anywhere in the world with just fractions of a second often splitting today’s heroes.

In the past 51 years, many future British and World Champions have 'cut their teeth' at Billown including riders of the calibre of Bob McIntyre, Phil Read, Joey Dunlop, Ian Lougher and current lap record holder Cameron Donald. The non-stop action comes thick and fast with Superbikes, Supersport bikes as well as Two Stroke machines all doing battle.

Commenting on the programme events for Billown, Isle of Man Minister for Tourism and Leisure David Cretney MHK said: “Billown remains one of the most popular venues for road race fans and competitors alike and the Southern 100 club can be relied upon to put on an excellent event. Both the Pre TT Classic Races and the Steam Packet National Races have grown up to be an important part of the TT Festival and no doubt continue this tradition at the Centenary TT Races in 2007.”
