Isle of Man Census Report 2006 18 December 2006

A summary of key results from the 2006 Census has been released. The release reveals that the official figure for the Island’s resident population on Census Night (23rd April 2006) has been finalised as 80,058. This represents an increase of 3,743 on the 76,315 recorded in the 2001 Census. As anticipated, the final count is slightly higher than the provisional figure released earlier in the year.

Other main findings contained in the release include figures for the nationality, age, sex and economic activity of the Island’s resident population.

All census data has now been input into the database, verified and checked, and work has begun on production of the detailed tables which will form the basis of the full 2006 census report.

Economic Affairs Division of Treasury, which is responsible for compiling the figures, expects to have the full report completed and laid before Tynwald in February 2007.

A copy of the sumary results is available on our website www.gov.im/treasury/economic
