Public invited to Careers Convention 2 January 2007

THE public is invited to attend the annual all-Island Careers Convention at the Villa Marina, Douglas, next month.

This year the event will last for two days – Wednesday, February 7 and Thursday, February 8.

More than 46 public and private sector employers will occupy 59 stands, offering advice on entering professions such as the armed forces, health, shipping, finance, the media, meteorology, manufacturing, the emergency services and many more.

The Manx Government will showcase opportunities in fields such as teaching, forestry, civil engineering, science, nursing and dentistry. Careers advisers from the Department of Education’s Careers Service will attend to give specific information and to advise on which exhibitors to approach.

Also present will be the Department’s Youth Service and Junior Achievement.

Nearly 1,000 Year 11 students from all five secondary schools will be attending the convention and quizzing prospective employers about the opportunities they have available.

Media and Events Co-ordinator Jo Overty said:

‘This event has grown in stature and many of the Island’s leading employers will be represented, offering exciting opportunities across many fields. This is a chance to discuss the qualifications and training you need to either start your very first career or embark on a different path.’

The event is open from 1pm to 7pm on Wednesday, February 7 and from 9am to 5.30pm on Thursday, February 8. Admission to the event is free.
