2007 is an event-ful year on the Isle of Man 9 February 2007

The Department of Tourism and Leisure is pleased to announce an action packed agenda of events for 2007. Highlights include: 2

2nd Annual Darts Festival - March 9-11

Anyone with an interest or background in darts is invited to the annual Darts Festival. The event takes place at the Villa Marina and the competitions will be divided into mixed doubles, men and ladies pairs and mens and ladies individual. Visit www.isleofmandarts.com

Round the Island Yacht Race – May 6

The Isle of Man will host the ‘Round the Island Yacht Race’ on 6th May and competitors will set sail from Ramsey Harbour. Run by the Manx Sailing and Cruising Club, the event promises to attract hundreds of competitors. Visit www.msandcc.org

International VMCC TT Rally - June 1-10

The Vintage Motorcycle Club will be holding a host of events and parades on non-race days during TT week. This is a chance to see exotic machines from yesteryear and find out all about them from their enthusiastic owners. The highlight of the Rally is the 1907-2007 re-enactment of the first TT race on the original course at St John’s on May 28 at 10.00am. Visit www.visitisleofman.com

Crown Green Bowling Festival - June 18-22

The Isle of Man has been a popular destination for thousands of Crown Green Bowlers from all over the UK for over 83 years, with the first tournament taking place back in 1921. It takes place iin Nobles Park and the main competition prize fund amounts to over £16,500 per Festival, with the men’s first prize being £3,000! Visit www.isleofmanbowls.com

The Parish Walk – June 23

Becoming something of a cult hit on the Isle of Man, the annual Parish Walk sees 1,300 participants cover 85-miles around 17 parishes. Walkers can decide how far they walk. Rushen at 19 miles and Peel at 32.5 miles are popular distances, but walkers must complete their course within 24 hours. Visit www.parishwalk.com

Isle of Man Walking Festival – June 24-29

The Isle of Man Walking Festival, now in its fourth year, attracts over 250 participants annually from all over the UK to take part in five days of walks. The walks are aimed at people of all abilities and vary between inland rambles over hillsides, mines, moorland and waterfalls to breezy coastal trails. Southern 100 Motorcycle Races gear up for 2007 - July 9-12

Watch motorbikes soar round the 4.25-mile track at the Billown course. This popular annual road race is for motorcycles and bikes with sidecars. Visit www.southern100.com

Isle of Man International Rally - July 19-21

The 22-stage International Rally will once again take place in July, attracting over 200 competitors. Visit www.mir.co.im

Adventure Week –August 15-20

Adventurous Experiences hosts its second Adventure Week, following an overwhelming response in 2006. The adrenaline-based festival, incorporating the 5th Annual Sea Kayak Symposium, will host a wide range of outdoor pursuits during the week with live music and evening entertainment over the weekend. Activities include sea-kayaking, coasteering, low level sea traversing, rock climbing with sea views, diving, sailing, paragliding and even micro light rides. Visit www.adventurousexperiences.com

The Crown Green Bowling Festival –September 3-7

The 2nd Crown Green Bowling Festival of 2007 will take place at Nobles Park. It is now recognised as the best festival in the bowling calendar, and carries with it the highest prize money of any festival. Visit www.isleofmanbowls.com

End-to-End Mountain Bike Challenge – September 9

This event is a 70km bicycle ride from the Point of Ayre to The Sound. The tough challenge will test the endurance of even the fittest cyclist, as the course climbs over 1,500 metres and crosses over some of the best off road trails the Isle of Man has to offer. Visit www.manxmtb.com

International Chess tournament – September 22-30

The Monarch Assurance 16th International Chess Tournament is to take place at the Ocean Castle Hotel in Port Erin. The event is recognized as being at the forefront of chess tournaments in the British Isles and attracts a range of competitors from around the world. Visit www.bcmchess.co.uk

Autumn Walking Festival - October 11-14

The inaugural Autumn Walking Festival enjoyed great success in 2006 and is set to be an annual event. There will be three days of walks on the island aimed at people of all abilities. The routes will take in some of the island’s most renowned sights and walking distances will range from three to 14 miles. Visit www.isleofmanwalking.com
