New Castletown Road reconstruction works at Groves Road junction, Douglas 26 March 2007

Work will start on Monday, 26th March to reconstruct the New Castletown Road junction with Groves Road.

The scheme will involve reconstructing that section of New Castletown Road, starting from a point 10 metres away from the Anagh Coar side of Groves Road junction to the Saddle Road side of Ballaughton Close. In order to prevent further disruption at a later date, the utilities are to undertake any works they may have at the same time, within the area.

The work is expected to be completed by Saturday, 12th May 2007.

There will also be some realignment to the kerbing and pedestrian facilities, and the section of Groves Road from the New Castletown Road to its junction with Springfield Avenue will be resurfaced.

Alan Hardinge, the Department’s Maintenance Manager, explained:

‘In order to maintain two-way traffic at all times on the New Castletown Road works. Inward bound traffic approaching from the direction of Anagh Coar traffic lights will not be able to turn right into Groves Road. There will be delays to motorists during these essential works, and particularly during peak hours motorists are advised to take an alternative route.
‘The junction will operate on temporary traffic signals for the duration of these works, which will allow the New Castletown Road to flow on two-way traffic, and Groves Road flowing on a separate phase.
‘The temporary traffic signals will be operated manually during periods busy periods and will be constantly monitored throughout the day in order to ensure access is maintained at all times for emergency vehicles.’

Access to the Spring Valley Estate from the New Castletown Road by buses and taxis will be maintained, as well as access to Pulrose for heavy goods vehicles.

The Department apologises for any inconvenience these works may cause to motorists and residents in the affected area. Anyone requiring further information should call the Department’s Engineering Works Section on 850000, or visit the Department’s Roadwatch website http://www.gov.im/residents/roadnotifications/ for further information and updates.
